Community Coalitions

In December 2007, PEACE sub-granted five community drug-free coalitions that represent the successful collaboration of approximately 36 community organizations.  The five coalitions are Community Services and Resources, Inc. (CSR), Island Families of Micronesia, Oasis Empowerment Center, Pa’a Taotao Tano, and Pacific Abundant Living Ministries, Inc. (PALM).

A combined total of $341,069.00 was awarded to the coalitions through PEACE’s Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  The multiple grant awards are being used to develop Community-Driven Action Plans that will result in new community-based substance abuse prevention programs for Guam.

Coalition members are now in Phase 1 (Steps 1-3) and have until November 2008 to complete their planning process.  Each coalition will provide a Community Action Plan of how they plan to address substance use/abuse within their targeted communities.  The Coalitions are anticipated to move into Phase II (Steps 4-5) and should be ready to begin implementing new programs on Guam by the end of 2008.
