Resolution 195-31 Recognizes Local Suicide Intervention and Prevention Efforts:
“Relative to recognizing and commending the Prevention and Training Branch staff of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, and other PEACE Council stakeholders, for raising awareness of suicide prevention, and for providing intervention training on Guam; and does further extend Un Dångkulo Na Si Yu’os Ma’åse to them as they work with national partners and continue in their diligent efforts to reduce the suicide rate on Guam, as we observe September as the annual ‘Suicide Awareness Intervention and Prevention Month.’” |

The One Nation campaign was featured as one of the poster presentations at the National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing and Media. The conference was held by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on August 9 - 12, 2011. |

EPI Academy Meets in Majuro, RMI:
The Pacific Epidemiological Workforce Development Academy was a great opportunity for all Jurisdictions (American Samoa, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands) to learn more about using epidemiology in the pacific for substance abuse prevention, as well as to prepare to conduct these trainings locally to build the capacity across the pacific basin. This training was held on September 6-9, 2011, in Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands and was funded by the SAMHSA CSAP’s CAPT West Resource Team, Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies/MS 279, University of Nevada, Reno, NV 89557 |

6 ASIST Trainees Complete 5-Day Workshop: Following the ASIST training is a three-day Training of Trainers with six (6) select ASIST provisional trainer candidates. The six newly trained ASIST provisional trainers join a network of about 5,000 active trainers around the world. |

26 Volunteers Received ASIST Certification:
From September 12th and 13th, LivingWorks, Education, Inc. consultant Dave Biblow successfully trained 26 individuals in the two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) training at the Outrigger Hotel. All participants learned about the application of suicide “first aid” to persons showing symptoms of suicide risks. |
