announcements DMHSA produces local educational DVD on Tobacco Cessation. The localized production will be used to train other government, non-government or individuals interested in teaching others how to quit smoking. The DVD, funded with MSA’s dollars, is part of DMHSA’s Tobacco Control Program.
As of July 1, 2006 the Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse is completely tobacco free. Tobacco cessation couseling is available through the Prevention & Training branch at 477-9079 thru 9083.
As of June 9, 2006, all Guam restaurants are completely smoke free in accordance to the Natasha Protection Act.

Barbara S.N. Benavente
Congratulations Barbara, aka Bobbie, for receiving the 2006 Governor's Employee Recognition Program MagHOPE Award! Barbara competed with 12 other nominees and was selected as the recipient of the Merit Cup of Excellence Leader Award. She was also nominated for the Manager of the Year Category for Medium Departments/Agencies. Departments/Agencies that have 50-299 positions are considered Medium. The Governor's Merit Cup of Excellence Leader Award is given to the best leader among the top supervisors of the year and the top managers of the year in the Government of Guam's public sector.

Barbara has been with the Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse for over 25 years and has developed many professional relationships locally, nationally, and internationally. Her strong leadership has influenced and changed many lives around her. Barbara enjoys family time with her husband, Peter, their three kids and two beautiful granddaughters.

Way to Go Bobbie, GOOD JOB!!!

Youth Anti-Drug Campaign:  The various theater slides promoted anti drug messages in 14 theaters at the Guam Megaplex Theaters. The campaign ran from October to December 2006.
